Formatting and writing revisions:
- Running head (not header) only on page 1
- We no longer use the heading "literature review"
- Need title, not "literature review"
- Do not use heading "Introduction"
- If less than 6 authors, use all names in first in-text citation
- Avoid passive voice: "Researchers found that students exceeded expectations" or just "students exceeded expectations" rather than "Students were found to have exceeded expectations"
- Use one font in your paper
- Do not use first names of authors
- Use page numbers ONLY for direct quotes
- 1" margins, all the way around
- You have to have read the articles you cite - do not cite what someone else says unless you say "as cited in" which should be used VERY sparingly - always try to read the source yourself
- When using more than one citation in parentheses, these should be listed in alphabetical order by first author.
- Define/operationalize terms in your H/RQ
- Don't say "research says" if you are citing one study, say "Bandura (2016) found . . ."
- Ask one question in an RQ
- Be sure Microsoft Word is not putting extra spaces between your paragraphs
Editing shortcuts:
- sp - spelling error
- p - punctuaton error
- SF - Sentence Fragment
- run-on - Two sentences put together - split them
- S-V - subject and verb do not agree (look at plural/singular)
- trans - need a transition here
- pronoun - antecedent: your pronoun does not agree with the antecedent it refer so (look at plural/singular)
- awk - awkward wording of the sentence
- wc - poor word choice
- ww - wrong word (i.e., needed to use "chose" but put "choose")
