Week Three Theories: Interpersonal Communication
Some things to consider as you read and discuss:
Can passionate love really last? Consider:
George Bernard Shaw once described "marriage as an institution that brings together two people 'under the influence of the most violent, most insane, most delusive, and most transient of passions. They are required to swear that they will remain in that excited, abonormal, and exhausting condition continuously until death do them part.'" (Coontz, 2005, p. 15).
Before you read the theories of love article, take the love attitudes scale:
Love attitudes scale - scroll down - take the survey, then read further for how to analyze your love style. Potential application/observation paper: If you have a romantic partner, both of you take the survey and then analyze the findings in terms of benefits and drawbacks of these two kinds of love styles being in a relationship together.
